Tiger Crossing comes to Bournemouth

The first Tiger Crossing, a new road crossing which gives cyclists and pedestrians equal priority, is under construction in Bournemouth.

First introduced in London, the tiger crossing has now been brought to Bournemouth, with plans to create another one in the town in July.

The crossing, which comprises a standard zebra crossing with a separate parallel strip for cyclists, has been installed in Poole Lane, near LeAF academy.

The proposal is for the introduction of a ‘with flow’ cycle lane on both sides of Wimborne Rd.

Part Two – Borough wide Car & Motorcycle Bays

Please find attached the schedule of proposed parking restrictions which will be published on Friday 24th March 2017.

Scheme Summaries

·         Jewell Academy – New pedestrian crossing on Ibbertson Rd. Amending the restrictions in the service road outside the Townsend Primary School.

·         Wimborne Rd – New cycle lanes which have relocated the on-street parking.

·         Twynham Rd & Belle Vue Rd – New shared cycle & pedestrian crossing on Belle Vue Rd

·         Bourne Ave & Braidley Rd Amendments – Slight amendments to the proposed restrictions for the November 2016 Braidley Road, Bourne Avenue, Avenue Road Improvement Scheme

·         Car & Motorcycle Bays (borough wide) – adjust the Traffic Regulation Order to match the existing restrictions on the highway.

·         Residential Disabled Bays in Acres Rd, Bishop Rd, Shelbourne Rd and Spring Rd

Notice of change of crossing type from pedestrian only (Zebra) to shared pedestrian & cycle crossing (Parallel).

·         Belle Vue Rd – Adjacent to No.179 Belle Vue Road (near the closed sections of Twynham Rd).

Turning the Corner

‘Turning the Corner’ campaign to strengthen the Highway Code so it is in line with the vast majority of other countries: if you turn a corner, you give way to pedestrians and cyclists crossing.
